Tegelberg Freenet Gateway @100km (63miles)

by admin on March 9, 2010

Just a small video, as a matter of fact it is congratulations needed to the Freenet Funker (freenetfunker.de.tf who has installed a link at 1730m which provides excellent coverage to Bayern and Bad Wurtembourg area. I am at 100km from the link, and can drive around here with patchy coverage up to 120km from the car. Testing was on the new Yaesu VX8R (www.neuner.de) and came unlocked for PMR, FREENET, not any mods needed, as it is the B3 version so am told. Built in TNC, marine, radio shortwave, optional GPS antenna and mike, this is the radio mans radio. More about that later. Just wanted to thank EL-marius and Andi for there excellent idea, last evening when testing the VX8 after programming the link was solid 5/7 and even can access it from the sofa,, today in worse weather the link is weaker, to see where Tegelberg is: www.superschnee.com Located in Allgau….. One question?? Where is the next link, and maybe for 446mhz?? Brilliant Guys… Freenet is 6 channels located in the 149mhz area of the band, and are in addition to the pmr and also lpd channels here in Germany (“.) To find it, download FRN Software, and the room fun-funk.de and the room German. Its there for to use, maybe hear you there

Has been changed now and mobile phone screen added. That was the first try so was straight from box, nothing more. 73s

“…can see on the screen maybe?…” – nope – you’ll need to remove that plastic packing film! The screens on these things are quite tough and scratch resistance. My little Yaesu goes most places and the screen still looks great. If you are really concerned about it, you can get optically clear film designed for PDA’s, mobiles etc. to put on there and trim to size. 73 – VK2GOM

Thanks for the news, hope that it works well. They are excellent on all areas really, cannot at all complain aboout mine. Receive is excellent, and works as well on low power as anything have tried.

Got one a couple of days ago (VX-8R). My incentive to upgrade from Novice after having my license for 20+yrs and never doing anything with it. GREAT little radio.

I didn’t know that Simon……….as mines only been used on 2meters (4 Times………LOL).I’ve just worked into Italy EU “Midband” on my DNT 40FM……….5/9+.The other guy was on a TS870s with audio gear….(maybe them lads can use them on EU FM…..!!!).He did start giving his IK call out when I called him.LOL

The only thing is that the VX8e is the first one with the 6.25 step for PMR. The mobile radio FTM10 had it, but when tx it took you other places.

Nice video ..Simon,Fez I own a Yaesu VX7R which I have all the matching extras for (Including hand mic and case) these have been out for 5 years+ now and the VX8 is an updated version, these are 5 watts 2/70/6 meters and I guess can be widebanded……….and can be picked up used for £120ish..DAVE (M0OGY/26OK046) UK.

Honestly, still getting the radio sorted, but it has the lot.. Mega Impressed at the moment, true the price is also a lot, but you only get what you pay for as they used to say. Hope more vids with the VX8e coming soon :)

Freenet is 6 channels in 149mhz and indeed it is licence free, 500mw and fixed antenna, like with PMR. And, same as PMR you can connect it to the internet via the software eqso and frn. This one, its on FRN

GrowMoreWeed March 10, 2010 at 12:49 am

Likewise. I’ll take one of each please! :D

Is Freenet as the name would imply, license free?

fezuk2006 March 10, 2010 at 1:27 am

Both! lol.

The radio is the biz but I can’t justify £300 on a handheld :(

A node at 1700m would also be nice. :D

Hi Fez, what you need? The radio or the gateway. This radio oh man is the business. It works like stink, can access the links OE7XRJ and the Tegelberg with 500mw, not more needed. Just new here yesterday so many things to look at. Markus @ Neuner again had it one of the first! A lot more to do with it and will add here, inbuilt TNC, does APRS, and god knows what. Not read the “small” manual at the moment, well not completed reading it
