Esky Big Lama product review with blade strike examples.

by admin on March 2, 2010

All Coaxials can easily have blade strikes. If you fly them long enough, you will eventually have that happen. The Esky Big Lama is a great machine, but suffers the same blade strike tendencies as other coaxials. Unfortunately i was flying at 100m and i tried some high flying and some tricks and then i did exacly the same as you did on this video. So my helicopter’s blades stopped and i was at 100m. It ended up my helicopter falling from the air and crashing to the ground. I won’t do that again for sure.

Maybe he doesn’t want to use copyright stuff?

uppgrade it!
buy the extendet inner shaft, then you have a good fwd!
and increase the blade strike.
and buy hbfp heatsinks, then it dousnt overheat.

YO TENGO ESTE HELI Y ME PASA LO MISMO HAY UN SEPARADOR PARA LAS PALAS PERO NO LO HE CONSEGUIDO. LOOKING THIS VIDEO “Esky Big Lama With Long Shaft To Prevent Blade …”

I have this heli and i never tighten up the blades before flight, and blade strike never happened. I wasn’t even paying attention to move smoothly :) May be the blades should be a little bit loose ?

LoL Hitler is controlling the RC Heli :D Kidding! Nice test video!

NoobyRC March 2, 2010 at 10:38 am

why not mount a small but tight clamp on top of the bottom blade in a position to prevent it from flexing so much.

I have a small 2 channel coaxle that has something like that on it and I have never had blade strike

Olthomson March 2, 2010 at 11:33 am

why do his videos always have annoying music

Driftking3268 March 2, 2010 at 11:37 am

I heard the motor heats up after 2 or 3 minutes…. I can’t spend more money on the helicopter so I don’t know what to do… I think i just wasted $100 on a heli that isn’t even that good…. How long would you say the Big Lama would last with all stock components

Vbluguitar March 2, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Another good (but slightly more expensive) heli is the blade MCX. It is my first heli and I have been having a lot of fun with it. Plus, when I do break something, the local hobby store usually has it in stock. Most MCX parts are under 5 dollars.

Great video! I have one of these and did a mod which I think everyone should do. I had a crash and upon impact the tiny antenna inside the heli snapped. I had to create one and solder it back inside (I am a tech). After installing my new antenna, I decided to create a guard for it to prevent future breakage. I cut up a disposable tupperware bowl and made a loop around the recevier inside the heli. Comment to me if you would like a pic. Easy safeguard for a $20 fix!

Balhal32 March 2, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Great vids! Please… someone helps me… which one is the better option for a beginner, Exceed Blazing Star, Big Lama or Belt CP 450 V2???? My experience is only 3ch… and i don’t like 3d acrobatic flights… so, is just have some fun with a good RC Heli. THANKS!!!

Is there anywhere I can get the lama instruction manuel in plain ENGLISH? Whoever ESKY has on staff to do their Chinese to English translation should really be shot. I can barely make some of this stuff out.

0MoTheG March 2, 2010 at 4:20 pm

yes they should.
the blades should come bend down, so when they flex up, they get straight.

Maghse2 March 2, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Can you give me a link to where I can find this upgrade?
